Show Notes

Did you start your plumbing business because you wanted more freedom but instead found yourself spending all your time at the office, worrying about the office, or just plain exhausted?

Well, that’s because you’re running your plumbing business incorrectly!

So, here are 3 things you can do to have more time, financial security, and the FREEDOM you were looking for all along.

No Nights and Weekends

The first thing you need to do is to stop working nights and weekends.

Why? Because it’s…

  1. A waste of time
  2. A waste of resources
  3. A waste of energy

Instead of constantly being on-call, focus your energy on working 9-5, Monday to Friday. This allows you, your employees, AND your equipment to rest and take a breather.

Yes, some people might have emergencies at night or during holidays, but you shouldn’t be the one handling them. Let other companies who don’t mind making their employees work at odd hours take it.

You won’t lose out on job opportunities–you’ll be eliminating the chaos and the exhaustion that result from being on call 24/7.

And that chaos doesn’t just affect you; it affects your family as well. Because, trust us, your wife is tired of waiting for your phone to ring, saying a new customer is waiting for you during dinner.

So do yourself, your family, and your employees all a favor and let go of working nights and weekends.

Schedule Time Off

The second thing is you HAVE to plan for time off. Do it months ahead, schedule it, and then actually BOOK your holiday!

Doing it months ahead allows you to put all your business in order and be able to actually prepare and free yourself up for that vacation since it’s already been paid for.

And if you’re worried about the costs, start small. We’re not saying book a week in FIJI right now–be responsible. Take the time to look for deals on small, local trips that could be suitable for you and your family.

OR, take your wife somewhere nice for a weekend.

Planning breaks like these allows you to decompress and relax while at work because you know there’s something exciting to look forward to.

Just book your holidays months in advance, and don’t worry about any responsibilities that might pop up in time of the trip–booking them in advance gives you the time to handle any obstacles that might come in the way.

So, no excuses, and book that time off. You deserve it! And it’s what you started this business to be able to do, right?

Get Your Butt Out of the Truck

Lastly, get your butt outta the truck!

As a plumbing business owner, why do you feel the need to be out on job sites? You’re not supposed to run your business from the truck; you’re the CEO–you operate OUTSIDE the truck.

We always get this question, when’s the ideal time to start hiring? And the answer is–NOW!

Hire techs to handle the plumbing so that you can focus on other, more critical tasks that help you grow your business and improve your service.

Because if the only difference between running a business and working for someone else is that you no longer have a boss–then you’re not creating a business; you’re creating a job for yourself.

So, stop treating your business like it’s a job or a hobby–be a professional business owner, hire people, and step out of that truck and into your office–today!

And there you have it, the 3 steps to creating more freedom for yourself AND your men.
