Show Notes
If you’re a plumbing business owner, you need to be in this business for the right reasons.
And that reason can’t be your love for plumbing. Instead, it should be about money! And that’s neither a bad nor selfish reason. Because we believe that being rich is your moral duty–because it’s how you’re able to…
- Give back to the community
- Support the causes you’re passionate about
- Pay your employees a living wage
- Support your family
And if you’re like us and you just started your plumbing business with nothing but your truck, tools and your drive, then how else are you going to do all of that if not by working toward becoming rich?
That being said, here are 3 steps to help you grow your plumbing business, but also live the satisfying freedom lifestyle, too!
Change Your Thinking
The first step is to change the way you think about money.
You NEED to understand that being rich is not a bad thing.
Because like we said, being rich allows you to…
- give back to the community
- support charities
- grow as a person
- be there for your children
And, it helps you teach your kids in turn to become their own successful people
Take it from one of our favorite books ever, Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki–the rich dad is able to teach his kids important life lessons that will allow them to thrive, while the poor dad can only teach his kids how to survive.
That’s why it’s important to change your relationship with money. Stop viewing it as something that’s evil and that ruins people, and instead accept it as a tool that allows you to achieve a better life, and thus you should be seeking.
It’s all about your mindset; never forget that!
Charge For-Profit
The second and most important step is to charge for-profit.
Your plumbing business is not a hobby or a favor, it’s a professional service that provides value and quality to your customers.
And if you really want to serve your community well, then you need to offer a great experience. Starting by providing great service from licensed and professional technicians; and you can’t do that if you’re barely breaking even or losing money!
So don’t think that charging fairly, aka charging for profit, is you being greedy or dishonest. It’s just you being compensated enough to sustain your business and your lifestyle while doing a good job keeping your community safe.
Because you need to charge enough to keep your employees happy and loyal, and you can’t do that if you’re paying them peanuts and offering them no benefits.
You want to attract and retain the best talent for your team, and that requires investing in them.
So, charge accordingly, keep your techs happy, and keep your community thriving with the service you offer.
Coach Up
And the third and final step is to learn from the eagles.
I always say this, but being a plumbing business owner is not about being a plumber. It’s about being a leader; a CEO.
So, if you’re working hard but not growing as fast as you want, then maybe you need some help.
And that means learning from the experts.
It might seem like a big expense, and it is (we know, we’ve been there) – but the payoff is worth it. Getting coaching is the smartest investment you can make for yourself and your plumbing business because the return on investment is limitless.
And don’t let your pride stop you or prevent you from learning–there’s nothing wrong with starting from scratch. And even if you’ve been in the business for a while, there’s always room for improvement and new skills that you might have overlooked.
No one will think less of you or criticize you for not getting it right the first time.
Because, guess what, as a new plumbing CEO, you’re not a superhero; you can’t learn everything about running a business overnight. That’s why you seek guidance from those who have the experience and are willing to share it.
So, there you have it.
Three steps to make your plumbing business more profitable and fulfilling.
By changing your thinking, charging for-profit, and coaching up, you can achieve your financial goals and live the freedom lifestyle you deserve.
And remember, being rich is not a sin; it’s a moral duty. Because when you’re rich, you can do more good for yourself, your family, your employees, and your community.
So don’t settle for less than you’re worth; go out there and make it happen!
